VALVES & COCKS

Gate Valves

A gate valve, also known as a sluice valve, is a valve that opens by lifting a round or rectangular gate/wedge out of the path of the fluid. Gate valves are often used when a straight-line flow of fluid and minimum restriction is desired.

Globe Valves

A Globe valves is a linear motion valve and are primarily designed to stop, start and regulate flow. The disk of a Globe valve can be totally removed from the flow path or it can completely close the flow path. Conventional Globe valves may be used for isolation and throttling services.

Check Valves

Check valves are mechanical valves that permit gases and liquids to flow in only one direction, preventing process flow from reversing. They are classified as one-way directional valves. Fluid flow in the desired direction opens the valve, while backflow forces the valve closed.

Ball Valves

A ball valve is a form of quarter-turn valve which uses a hollow, perforated and pivoting ball to control flow through it. It is open when the ball's hole is in line with the flow and closed when it is pivoted 90-degrees by the valve handle.

Butterfly Valves

A butterfly valve is a valve which can be used for isolating or regulating flow. The closing mechanism takes the form of a disk.

Diaphragm Valves

Diaphragm valves consists of a valve body with two or more ports, a diaphragm, and a "weir or saddle" or seat upon which the diaphragm closes the valve.

Foot Valves

Foot Valves are a form of check valve, installed at the bottom of Pump suction line, inside the wet well. Foot valves are an inexpensive way to prime a single centrifugal pump.

Cocks / Plugs

Plug or cock valves are valves with cylindrical or conically tapered "plugs" which can be rotated inside the valve body to control flow through the valve. The plugs in plug valves have one or more hollow passageways going sideways through the plug, so that fluid can flow through the plug when the valve is open.

Needle Valves / Isolating Valves

A needle valve is a type of valve having a small port and a threaded, needle-shaped plunger. It allows precise regulation of flow, although it is generally only capable of relatively low flow rates.
An isolation valve is a valve in a fluid handling system that stops the flow of process media to a given location, usually for maintenance or safety purposes. They can also be used to provide flow logic (selecting one flow path versus another), and to connect external equipment to a system.

Storm Valves

A Storm valve is basically a swing Check valve with a Closing device. The closing device is usually a hand wheel but they can also be actuated. Storm valves are usually found on ships in sanitary piping systems which have a ships side exit. They prevent sea water entering the system during a heavy sea.

Pressure Reducing Valves

A Pressure Reducing Valve controls and reduces the pressure of the stream to a specified value regardless of variation of inlet pressure.

Pressure Relief Valve / Safety Valves

The relief valve (RV) is a type of valve used to control or limit the pressure in a system or vessel which can build up for a process upset, instrument or equipment failure, or fire. The pressure is relieved by allowing the pressurized fluid to flow from an auxiliary passage out of the system.
Safety Valve is a one type of valve that automatically actuates when the pressure of inlet side of the valve increases to a predetermined pressure, to open the valve disc and discharge the fluid ( steam or gas ) ; and when the pressure decreases to the prescribed value, to close the valve disc again.

SOS / Quick Closing Valves

As the name itself suggests, a quick closing valve is one which can be closed quickly. On ships, marine diesel engines draw fuel from reservoirs or storage tanks which are also known as service tanks. All these tanks are provided with a specific valve known as quick closing valve, in order to shut the fuel supply in case of emergency such as fire.

Self Closing Drain Valves

A self closing drain valve is a mechanical device used to release excess or unwanted quantities of liquid or gas from a storage tank, vessel or container. The valve is usually opened by turning a screw or handle, although some drain valves are automatically opened when a set pressure or temperature is reached. When the valve is opened, liquid or air drains from the storage tank due to gravity or pressure differential.

Fire Hydrant Valve

Fire Hydrant Valve is a safety measure or emergency equipment required to provide water supply with a sufficient pressure and flow through pipes strategically located for firefighting purposes.

Sounding Cock

Sounding pipes are devices used on board ships to assess or measure or both, the contents of the liquids in tanks, bilges, etc.

AIR VENT VALVES AUTOMATIC BALL TYPE

An air vent valve is to prevent the free entry of water into the tanks and to allow the passage of air or liquid to prevent excessive pressure or vacuum coming on the tank.

Distribution Box / Manifolds / Valve Chest

A manifold is a wide and/or bigger pipe, or channel, into which smaller pipes or channels lead.
The sea chest provides an intake reservoir from which piping systems draw raw water. Most sea chests are protected by removable gratings, and contain baffle plates to dampen the effects of vessel speed or sea state. The intake size of sea chests varies from less than 10 cm² to several square meters.
